Information such as product nature, specification, sales data, and another similar factor will help to create a suitable product positioning in the shelf.

Sometimes the customers can be well informed about the products, so the marketer should be extra careful in designing the planogram. If the planogram developer has substantial product knowledge, then identifying customer needs will be easier. Other aspects of products that should be known are level of competition in industry, industry nature, utility of the product and complementary products in the market.
